Overview
TimezonePal is a macOS menu bar application designed to help you track time across multiple timezones. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
Data Collection and Storage
What We Collect
TimezonePal stores the following information locally on your Mac only:
- Timezone entries: Names, cities, timezone identifiers, and optional URLs you enter
- Custom photos: Images you choose to upload for your timezone entries
- App preferences: Your settings for launch at login, sort order, and simplified view mode
- Location data: Temporarily used only for timezone lookups when you search for cities
Where Your Data is Stored
All data is stored locally on your device in the following locations:
- Database: Application Support directory (
~/Library/Application Support/) - Photos: Application Support directory as PNG files
- Preferences: macOS UserDefaults system
🔒 Important:
We do not have access to your data. We do not collect, transmit, or store your data on any remote servers.
Data Usage
How We Use Your Data
- Timezone calculations: To display accurate time information for your selected locations
- Location search: Apple Maps is used temporarily to geocode city names to timezones
- Settings: To remember your preferences across app launches
Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, or transmit your data to third parties.
The only external service used is Apple's MapKit framework for location search, which is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
Permissions
TimezonePal requests the following macOS permissions:
- Location Services: Used solely to convert city names to timezone information via Apple Maps. No continuous location tracking occurs.
- File Access: To save and load custom photos you select for your timezone entries
- Network Access: Required for Apple Maps API calls during location searches
Data Retention and Deletion
- Your data persists until you manually delete entries or clear all data
- To delete an entry: Click on any entry, then click the "Delete" button
- To delete all data: Enable Debug mode and use the "Clear Data" button in Settings
- Uninstalling the app will leave data files in your Application Support directory. To completely remove all data, delete the TimezonePal folder from
~/Library/Application Support/
Children's Privacy
TimezonePal does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app is suitable for all ages as it stores only timezone-related information locally.
Your Rights
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:
- Access: All your data is viewable within the app
- Modify: Edit any entry at any time
- Delete: Remove individual entries or all data
- Export: Your data is stored in a SQLite database which can be accessed directly if needed
Third-Party Services
TimezonePal uses the following Apple frameworks:
- MapKit: For location searches (subject to Apple's Privacy Policy)
- CoreLocation: For timezone geocoding (no continuous tracking)
No other third-party services, analytics, or tracking tools are used.
Legal Compliance
TimezonePal complies with:
- Apple App Store Review Guidelines
- macOS App Sandbox requirements
- General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) principles (data minimization, local storage)
- California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) - no data collection/selling
